The GMU MIS 491 team developed for FedWriters an informed Excel tool, which processes large sets of contract opportunity data and produces an automated output for review. Prior to this project, lists of contract opportunities were read and color coded manually based on worthiness of pursuit. The client’s needs were to maintain the output but automate the process of reaching it, using information from past performance and core competencies. The GMU MIS 491 solution was an Excel tool containing a sheet to be copied into files of contract data, which scores each contract opportunity then produces an output suggesting what action to take. This was supplemented by walkthroughs for usage and tutorials for adapting functions as client needs and priorities change.
