Joseph Jones is a computer engineering student that transferred into Virginia Tech after enjoying a great semester with Professor Ngac. He is interested in the inner workings of the computer and everything software related. He has a thirst for knowledge in both technology and the business world. His curiosity led him to build his computer by watching YouTube videos and other supplementary materials. He is bound to greater things once he enters the Information Technology industry.
Class Experience
"In your lifetime you will meet a handful of professors who have that teaching gene; he is one of them. There is an adage that says, “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”. He breaks this rule and can do both at an expert level. Perhaps my opinion has credibility since I had 3 different classes with the one and only Brian Ngac.
It is always refreshing to learn from a practitioner in the field that you are learning about. Not only was he able to articulate the material well, but he always connected with the students on a personal level. Ngac suggested to us better ways of securing ourselves when using the Internet and its connected technologies such as not using public wifi unless you a decent VPN. If you don't have a VPN, the better alternative is to use a personal wifi hotspot. He also suggested to us to not use a ‘password,’ rather a ‘passphrase’ for the password. Lastly, he suggested to us that the best security is “multifactor authentication."

Before Graduation
Joseph hopes to secure an internship with a technology company before his senior year at Virginia Tech.
Future Goals
Joseph is primarily interested in the Artificial Intelligence realm. To prepare for this, he has already taken some programming classes and is primarily focused on machine learning. Of course, in the era of the Internet of Things where a toaster is connected to the Internet and fridges can talk to the user, it is necessary to be adaptable to meet market demand. But either way, he has always been interested in writing software and solving problems. Once he has true mastery over the technical concepts, he will go into business for himself.
